When you think of Ok Go, do you think about treadmills, optical illusions, incredibly well thought out video clips that are done in one take? Or their simple but catchy songs?

If any of the above popped into your mind, then you will not be disappointed by their latest video Upside Down and Inside Out, shot entirely in one take, in a specially designed airplane, that Russia uses to train astronauts.
.

The video starts off simply enough with the four of them sitting down, passing tablets to each other between the rows and building to the final crescendo with balls, pinatas and well….you will just have to watch the video to find out how it goes.
.

As with any of their videos that they shoot in one take, I keep looking for any editing seams but never find any. With the complexity and choreography of their clips, you seriously wonder how many times it takes them to get it right and also marvel at the clean up effort if they do screw up right towards the end.
.

It also makes you wonder who keeps coming up with the ideas that they have. They have gone from treadmill, to wallpaper, to marching bands, to elaborate Rube Goldberg machines (where one item sets another into motion), to brilliantly planned optical illusions. It makes you wonder how many more brilliant clips that they have in mind as each one leaves you waiting for the next.
.

The song itself is their usual simple catchy tune (the kind that you may not have even turned to listen to if it wasn’t for their videos but, as always, the simplicity of the song begins to invade your mind, grows on you and always leaves you wanting more.
.

The fact that Ok Go have been around since 1998 (and making the videos since 2006 speaks) volumes about their talent. Upside Down and Inside Out already has around 11 million views on Facebook and is promising to be a hit.
.

As someone who has had the opportunity to see them live, I can attest that they are just as good as on their videos (anyone that gets the entire room at Capitol in Perth, Western Australia to sit on the floor while the band plays in the middle of the audience gets my vote!) so if you do get the chance, take it while you can as they have only been to Australia twice in their long career.

My name is Karen and I have been taking photos of bands since 2011. As I get more and more hooked on photography, I have also started branching out into anything that comes my way (including reviews etc) and I am starting to turn my passion into a business (living the dream!). I absolutely love my live music, especially the Perth Scene (some would even say addicted). I enjoy getting out there as often as I can, taking shots and chatting to people so if you are in Perth, come say hi :)
